September 17, 2024

A TESTAMENT TO DAVAO CITY'S PROGRESS SINCE ITS DECLARATION OF BEING INSURGENCY-FREE: 100 former rebels participated in the two-day People’s Organization Summit and Capacity Training organized by Task Force Balik-Loob led by Chairperson and Defense Undersecretary Angelito M. De Leon at Brgy. Mahayag, Bunawan District, Davao City from Aug. 29-30,2024.

A total of twenty-seven (27) People’s Organizations (POs) from Davao City and Davao del Norte submitted their entrepreneurial project proposals during the two-day People’s Organization Summit and Capacity Training held on August 29-30, 2024 in Brgy. Mahayag, Bunawan District, Davao City. Led by TFBL Chairperson and Defense Undersecretary Angelito M. De Leon, the event included lectures from the National Innovation Council, Land Bank of the Philippines, and Cooperative Development Authority to train 100 former rebels about nurturing an entrepreneurial mindset, handling cooperative capacity management and applying for lending programs. Information on the amnesty program was also provided in cooperation with the National Amnesty Commission.

The project proposals mainly focus on agriculture, such as farming, corn production, egg laying, and livestock production. There were also proposals for businesses like a general store, a bakery, an auto repair shop, and a tire repair shop, which are necessary to meet the community's basic needs.

USec. De Leon ensured that these proposals will be assessed for enhancement and compliance with legal requirements. “Aking susuriin ang project proposal na naibigay sa akin para mapag-aralan ito at maging isang template kung paano gagawin nationwide ang mga project proposal para mapondohan ng mga ahensya ng gobyerno na pwedeng tumulong sa atin.” He encouraged everyone’s support in developing the livelihood of POs towards their reintegration to mainstream society, as well as the successful implementation of their projects. “Tulungan natin silang umunlad upang sama-samang makamit ang minimithi nating kapayapaan at kaunlaran. Hinihikayat ko ang lahat na magtulungan upang higit pang maiangat ang estado ng pamumuhay ng mga People’s Organization at mga miyembro nito.”

The Task Force Balik-Loob has previously initiated various People’s Organization Summits and Cooperative Capacity Training in Cagayan and Palawan in recent months as a 'pioneering project' to steer future initiatives.
